On Thursday, members of our Fine Arts club went on a field trip to the Chicago Tribune, where a photographer and a member of the graphics department presented about their careers. Next, they walked around the Tribune building to look at some of the historically significant ornaments in and out of the building (you can see the group looking at a fragment of stone from the cave of the Nativity). Lastly, the trip concluded with a Chicago Architecture Foundation walking tour, including some sketching at the Art Institute, the Harold Washington Library, and the Federal Building. It was a great day! The whole day was full of new information and fun!
In just a few weeks, the Fine Arts Club will be going on a field trip. On part of that field trip, we will be taking a walking tour with the Chicago Architecture Foundation. While we learn about different types of architectural designs in buildings downtown, we will be doing some sketching. To prepare for that trip, the students did some sketching of our school. We started by doing a sketch of the school while inside. This was done from memory. After sketching indoors, we went out to the courtyard to do some more sketching. We did three different sketches. One was only 30 seconds long. Then, we did a second sketch with two minutes. Finally, we did a third sketch in five minutes. It was very interesting to see how our sketches evolved from the beginning sketch that was done indoors to the final sketch that was done within the five minute time frame.
During our last meeting of Fine Arts Club, students finished any zentangles that they were still working on and were able to do some more. These were then added to some black construction paper so that the line designs would really pop on the paper. They look great in the stairway!
